Your child 3-5 years

Ranger, that can be learned

Your child's bedroom is overflowing with toys, clothes and shoes lying around, and your living room has become a playroom. You spend a lot of time tidying up. It becomes a chore! How to help him tidy up? The advice of Laurence Einfalt, personal organization consultant.

CASE BY CASE SOLUTION

He does not understand why it is necessary to put away

  • When you ask him to tidy up his mess, he sees above all an untimely interruption of his games.

What has to be done

  • At his age, he does not have the notion of order. This requires him to organize himself, which he will not be able to do until around 6 years old. But he can be introduced to storage if he understands the reasons: make him notice that he is anxious to look everywhere for his favorite figurine. Explain that you could slip on small cars and hurt yourself. And make the constraint less unpleasant by turning it into play: race to the one who will have quickly accomplished a designated task.
  • What to tell him. "Look, now there is enough room in your room to dance."

He needs method

  • He arranges when you ask him, but a quarter of an hour later, everything is in the same state.

What has to be done

  • The complexity of this little job discourages him and he does not know where to start. He needs your help. So use his skills: he already knows how to put together objects that are similar, an activity he practices in kindergarten. Sit with him in the middle of his room and ask him if he sees the books, the building bricks ... Then offer him to replace all the bricks in the box you give him. So continue in series. And do not forget to congratulate him every step of the way.
  • What to tell him. "Before you go to bed, put all your stuffed toys in the toy box and have a good night's sleep."
