The pacifier, what's the point? Is there a height according to baby's age? Is it better to buy an anatomical or physiological pacifier, silicone or rubber? Our advice to choose it.

What's the use of a pacifier?

  • The lollipop satisfies your baby's physiological need for suction and soothes his tears. In the United States, it is called "pacify" because it provides calm and peace. It is obviously not essential, but may be useful for some babies, helping them to sleep or relieve colic.

What size for her pacifier?

  • Yes, there are also sizes (finally ages recommended) for pacifiers. And it is important to choose a model based on the age of your baby so that it is well adapted to the size of his mouth and avoid possible distortion of the palate. The indicated age is marked on the packaging. For a newborn, for example, there are specially adapted models for 0-3 months (and even models 0-2 months) with a nipple adapted to young palates. As your baby gets older, you will move on to the next age group. The models from 3 to 6 months are studied with a bigger nipple, but always respecting the palate. Pacifier models for babies older than 6 months are larger and wider to reduce the risk of strangulation.

What form ?

  • The physiological teat (or orthodontic) has an asymmetrical shape (rounded tip above and flat below) to avoid the risk of deformation of the jaw of the child. Attention, it should always be taken in the mouth in the right direction: parte rounded against the palate and flat against the tongue.
  • The so-called anatomical teat because it looks like the breast shape has a flattened end on both sides and can be sucked in both directions.
  • For the choice, why not trust your baby and offer him both forms to see the one he prefers!

Silicone or rubber?

  • The silicone teat, transparent, has less risk of allergy than rubber (or latex). It is also more resistant and without taste or smell since it is a synthetic material. Its disadvantage? It is often a little more expensive.
  • Rubber is a natural and soft material, but it can give off some odor and is less resistant over time. However, it is advisable to change the pacifier every month or as soon as you notice a slight deterioration.

Little "pluses" for the pacifier

  • Some models of nipples have ventilation holes at the collar. This avoids the "suction cup" effect and minimizes the risk of irritation.
  • There are also special night tights phosphorescent, handy if your baby loses. He will not need you to find her in the dark.
  • Do not neglect either, the pacifier clip!
